Kutná Hora - 30 years on the UNESCO list
In 1995, Kutná Hora’s historic centre, along with St. Barbara's Cathedral and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Sedlec, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This recognition was given in light of the city’s extraordinary significance, which is closely linked to silver mining.
The obverse side, designed by medallist Lukáš Preisler, depicts the town’s most prominent landmark – St. Barbara's Cathedral. On the left is the Jesuit College, which together with the cathedral forms a characteristic view of the city. The upper part shows a detail of the ribbed vault of the cathedral's nave.
The reverse side depicts the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist. Next to it is part of the Italian Court, and stylized skulls from the ossuary are faithfully reproduced in the upper part.
