The name of this coin was given by the maple leaf (Maple leaf), the symbol of Canada. The Royal Canadian Mint (RMC) first produced the 1-ounce silver Maple Leaf in 1988. The purity of this coin is 99.99%, the most of all silver coins. The face value of this 1 oz coin is 5 Canadian dollars. Between 1988 and 1999, platinum "Maple leaf" was produced in all five mintings. (Newly, since 2009, the "Maple leaf" has been minted again from 1 troy ounce of platinum). Between 2005 and 2007 and since 2009, this coin was also minted from palladium. The "Maple Leaf" made of pure gold was first minted in 1979.
