Gold coin 1/2 oz 5.000 CZK Pilsen standard
On May 26, 2026, the Czech National Bank issued the first gold coin in the ongoing “Urban Conservation Areas II” series. The coin depicts the city of Pilsen. It is minted from 999.9 fine gold and is issued in two versions - standard and proof - which differ in their surface finish and edge design.
On the obverse of the coin, a section of the Renaissance town hall on Republic Square is depicted on the left. In the center of the coin’s field are the heraldic animals from the large national coat of arms, arranged from top to bottom as follows: the Bohemian lion, the Moravian eagle in the center, and the Silesian eagle at the bottom. To the right of the heraldic animals is a section of the municipal library building on Bedřich Smetana Street.
On the reverse side of the coin, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral is depicted on the left, and a section of the U Červeného srdce house on Republic Square is shown on the right. In the upper part of the coin, a fragment of sgraffito plasterwork is visible on the left, above which is the text “MĚSTO PLZEŇ,” and on the right is the year of issue “2026.” The initials of the coin’s designer, academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, formed by the letters “F” and “Z,” are located along the left edge of the coin.
